Needle book with French Vintage Notions

$32.00

In the early 18th century, needlebooks were used to store needles in order to keep these precious objects from being lost or damaged. The wool felt ladened with lanolin helped to minimize the rusting of pins. A needle's thread was often attached to one side and the floss would naturally stick to the wool fabric and prevent tangling. These simple objects held great value 300 years ago and still have a useful purpose today.

I created this needlebook from fabric, cording, and a sweet button from my favorite haberdashery shop in Paris, Sajou. I never leave that exquisite boutique empty handed. I also filled the back pocket with a few of my favorite vintage notions. The backing is made from vintage, French linen fabric. The felt pages are 100% wool from Germany. Quality materials throughout.

There is such beauty in a handmade item. The maker's thoughts, memories, creative spirit are captured within the object. For me, I have fond memories of my first sewing teacher having a tiny needlebook tucked in her pocket. I knew that I wanted to make some by hand to share with you.

Each book is sold individually. I have one other Sanjou needlebook available in the shop.

When closed, the needlebook measures 3 1/4 inches by 3 1/2 inches
