Set Mid Century Mixing Bowls & Covers

This set of 3 bowls does everything in the kitchen. They’re perfect for preparing food and serving right to the table. Made in East Germany in the late 1960s or early 70s. They are marked both GDR for German Democratic Republic or DDR for Deutsche Demokratische Republik. You will find both marks on ceramics when shopping the flea markets in Berlin. In fact, this city is the best place to hunt for mid century items. I still have a soft spot for this style’s simple and modern design. I think it pairs well with most any interior decor.

All three bowls are in excellent vintage condition. There are no nicks, chips, or cracks. Upon close inspection, there is a tiny amount of crazing in the original glaze on the bottom of one bowl. I have made matching, reversible, and reusable bowl covers. One fabric is a durable French linen and the other is a vintage fabric with a simple pattern that complements the bowls. Easy to cover your dish when bringing something to a friend’s house or dining alfresco.

These were utilitarian objects in the last century. Produced with everyone in mind. Simple. Practical. I love this golden color. I also have a matching cider pitcher in the shop.

Large bowl:

3 1/4 inches tall by 7 1/2 inches in diameter

Medium bowl:

2 1/2 inches tall by 6 1/2 inches in diameter

Small bowl:

2 inches tall by 5 1/4 inches in diameter
