Sometimes you just fall in love with a fabric the moment it touches your hand. I found this beautiful small linen duvet or comforter cover in Strasbourg, France. This fabric, called kelsch, has been made by hand in Alsace since the 12th century. Durable, quality, washes beautifully. This early 20th-century example has a wonderful softness to the fabric. Not stiff and hard. I can imagine a set of pillows being made that would be everyone's favorite to curl up with on the sofa. While there is wear to the duvet, it is still serviceable as a comforter cover. There is some overall fading to the color but not in drastic sections so that all of the blue checked could be repurposed. The handspun linen backing does have a small hole in the center and the front blue and creamy white check has been patched with the same soft cream linen along one side of the front. So many stories wrapped in this hand sewn textile. I just love it. One of the two cream ribbons for the top closing is missing. You could add another if you decided to use it as a duvet again. No matter, the fabric is divine in whatever way you want to enjoy it. I guarantee, you will not let a single bit go to waste . . . pillows, purses, down to that last bit as button covers. Heaven in the hand.
